TurnUp Activism

Is this your company?

Looks nice on resume, gives little experience. - Intern TurnUp Activism Employee Review

Pros

Because the position is remote and you decide what kinds of projects you want to do, the job is very flexible. We also got some interesting speaker events. TurnUp also gives some decent attention to various issues, including racial justice, disability rights, LGBTQ+ rights, etc.

Cons

TurnUp promises an integrated community of youth activists, and you will not get that. In a single Slack team, there might be around 30 people, so you don't get the chance to connect to anyone and learn from their experience. The weekly projects did sometimes teach more something new, but they just as often bored me and reiterated on concepts I was already familiar with. I often got the impression that people were working with TurnUp to fulfill volunteer hours, which wouldn't surprise me, because the position is unpaid. Team leaders are very upfront that while phone banking you may get verbally abused. I often felt that I was wasting my time on TurnUp.

Pros

Very informative assignments! I felt like I learned new info that I never was taught in classes or online.
