Pros

Great work/life balance, really cool business model

Cons

Touch Of Modern is one of the most unhealthy work environments I have ever encountered in my career. I witnessed three women bring forward a sexual harassment case, and it took six months to have the offender terminated, meanwhile, they fired other employees for "not having a positive attitude" or "under performance." These girls were traumatized by the situation, and it seemed like HR did nothing to help them. Furthermore, weekly happy hours led to a complete lack of professionalism by upper management, where they would frequently become intoxicated, to the point of saying inappropriate comments or even throwing up. My impression from the majority of upper management was mostly disappointment and dismay at their behavior for most of my time at this company. Furthermore, there were so many bizarre situations; for instance spouses or significant others were hired even though it didn't seem like they had the qualifications to do their jobs. Another scenario--a few employees were terminated for "bringing down company morale," but they managed to keep everyone who would go out on breaks and smoke Marajuana or go to their cars and drink alcohol before returning to work. There isn't enough space in this box to recount the negative experiences I witnessed at this company.

This is Jerry, and I thank you for what you have to say about work/life balance and our business model. The reasons why people are terminated from any company, not just our company, are considered privileged and private information between our two parties, and we keep these reasons private as an act of courtesy and professionalism. For all terminations, sometimes there's a behavioral issue and a case has to be built and documented before any final actions take place. When people are underperforming, they are given a chance to improve. If they fail to improve, termination is guaranteed at all companies. As for significant others, at a company with this many employees, there are bound to be some internal relationships. In terms of job referrals for significant others, we have strict procedures in place to prevent bias, like having only non-related employees involved in the interview process, and if hired, to never be in the same department. Regarding our HR team, all you have to do is visit their LinkedIn profiles (or ask them yourself) to see their many years of professional experience. A lot of these comments seem to be based on perceived incidents having to do with other employees, whether or not that perception is true. We’re not here to speculate on what others do in their off-hours, pass judgment, or spread rumors - we’re here to work hard together and make this company great.

Pros

Great concept if the new team can make it work.

Cons

They are looking for low payed employees. Talent, experience, work ethic does not count. The harder you work, the harder it will get for you.
