Pros

The defined benefit pension plan is good, and there is a choice of health benefits available.

Cons

In the particular site where I worked, management openly disregarded in-house applications for new/higher-ranking administrative roles (they instead preferred to hire from other sites and preferred to have their current staff stay in their current roles indefinitely, ie: zero room for growth, or for any kind of higher earning potential); as I only ever worked at the one site, I am unsure whether this is a wider UHN issue, or just an issue at that particular site. Also, admin assistant salaries at all the UHN sites tended to overall be lower on average compared to other Toronto hospitals. Also, when several administrative staff approached management with various issues, there was a tendency for management to disregard queries/complaints.

Pros

Good compensation package, great population to work with (brain injury, stroke rehab), adequate training. Good entry level position for an experienced therapist.

Cons

As part time/casual staff, the position was very isolated. Limited interdisciplinary conversations. Often a higher workload than time to complete (i.e., documentation on own time). Pagers were often broken. Scheduling of sessions is on the white board.
