Pros

If you have no experience - they will consider you, but you must insist on a flat rate salary structure upfront or you will not make any money.

Cons

Toler Law Group is known for many things. One of those is high employee turn over rate. If you go on LinkedIn and search Toler Law Group you can get a feel for the turnover rate. Just in the past year the firm has had two principals leave the firm. One has to seriously question the stability of the firm and the quality of upper management. One of the reasons why so many attorneys leave may be due to the fact that you are treated like a number and not given much authority to manage your own work. All work is supervised to the point where your work product is dissected and tossed aside for someone else's idea. You cannot communicate with the client, direct and control an interview with a Patent Examiner, and sign and file office action responses and applications. Essentially, you are a number, and the principals know that and you are treated that way. Thus, this is a dead-end job with very little growth prospects. In addition, there is to be little interest in training attorneys to be better attorneys. This leads to, as described above, having your work product being cycled through a review process that seems to never end. In many instances the only reason why your product comes out of review is because it is weeks late to the client. During the reviews one of the most common practices is to be asked to add some language to an application or office action response in a first review and then asked to remove it in a subsequent review, then put back in and then back out in the subsequent reviews. If you ask around Texas, and you will find many who worked at Toler and can corroborate these comments. Beware though as there are many firms in Texas that will not consider you as a candidate if you are currently working here. WARNING: many the positive reviews here were written by the management of this firm and the management works tirelessly to try and remove any negative reviews. To summarize it is impressive that the firm continues to be able to attract attorneys and have the stability to remain open. If you do end up taking a position here be prepared that you may have to leave the Austin or Texas to find another position.

Pros

People are friendly, good office location. You will get experience writing patents and might be able to use the experience to find a better job at a better firm.

Cons

You are expected to quickly get projects done but work would sit on a reviewers desk for days or even a week before being reviewed. Often the reviewer would make changes or edits to the reviewer's own previous changes or edits because the work had been sitting for so long, they forgot what changes or edits they had made. Not much direction on how the work should be done.
