Pros

I was working from home at the time, so my experience was different. I was extremely lucky to have outstanding team leaders and colleagues. I met real precious people, and my team leader is a star. The people I worked with were very supportive. During COVID, the company provided everything we needed from chair to monitor, desk etc. As far as I am concerned, the company kept its word with me. Other pros include a retirement plan, team building, wellbeing, mental health awareness and service, inclusivity education, always learning something new through challenges, company values, and the possibility of volunteering.

Cons

Toxic and draining job over time, in a sneaky way; not having any energy left outside work to do anything else was disheartening, unrealistic targets; the content becomes your daily reality. It changes your view of our society; it's both interesting and depressing if you don't remind yourself that it does not reflect the whole world. It's the noise, the constant images, and the speed at which we have to moderate. It's also hearing noise all day. In some projects, it felt like a mind factory; having to moderate so many videos in such a short time was bad for the head, for the eyes, for the ears, and for the brain. Mind your posture as well; make sure you have breaks and exercise! The constant policy updates that don't always make sense, the lack of alignment and communication. Having said all that, I worked for much worse companies in the past, and it's probably OK for someone young who has a plan for the future. For the short term only, unless you're lucky enough to be able to progress within the company.

Pros

Pay is level with industry and actual work is somewhat interesting depending on the team you're on

Cons

In my experience, career growth can feel very limited if you are not part of the dominant internal language and cultural network. A significant amount of important context, communication, and decision-making happens in Chinese, which can make non-Chinese-speaking employees feel excluded from key conversations and promotion opportunities. The environment did not feel as inclusive as it should be for a global company. Advancement often felt less tied to performance and more tied to whether you were connected to the right groups or able to operate fluently within the Chinese-speaking side of the organization. Over time, it felt like non-Chinese-speaking employees had fewer long-term career paths and were at risk of being replaced by people who could better fit that internal operating model. Things also move very slowly because employees are often given access only to the bare minimum needed to do their jobs. There is a heavy push toward using AI tools, but in practice it can make it harder to get help from real people. Instead of getting quick support, you often have to spend time going through AI bots or internal tools before getting a useful answer.
