Pros
Staff uniform is good, only a logo t-shirt, own trousers/shoes allowed along with safety gloves/knife provided. Generous staff discount of 40% once you pass 3 month probation period, clear assignment of tasks/departments for the day. Cheerful environment depending on store. Xmas parties are fantastic at Tiger, the company closes stores early so everyone can attend. Free stock regularly given to staff thanks to end of lines regularly cropping up which is nice. Always 2 days off a week, never any 6-7 day weeks like some retailers. Policy of progression within. Good facilities for lunches for staff along with free tea and coffee. Good health and safety awareness by management. Upper management very down to earth, respectful to staff and approachable which is rare in retail.
Cons
I worked in a "Flagship" store however some of my experiences were far from that. The merchandising was complex, confusing and store layout regularly changed which was tough to keep up with. Loud music where the same songs were played over and over again which made hearing customers and other staff members speak was difficult. The store I worked in at Hammersmith had a reputation internally for having a very high turnover of staff which when new staff quit or walked out, workload/stress among permanent staff was increased. No holidays in October to December time which is not really fair, low wages for both staff and management. One trainee supervisor told me he was earning only £13'000 per annum for a 45 hour week which is not a living wage. Performance reviews at times got personal and there was blatant favouritism with some of my colleagues by management. I also had a problem with that towards the end of my time there, staff were speaking on the shop floor to each other in Polish as the recently promoted manager at the time favoured hiring her own nationality. Company policy of not being able to get stock from the back for customers is wrong especially if it's a high cost item.
