Pros
Happy, happy days working for this company as long as you are young and healthy.
Cons
Never ever try to get old working for Thorlabs ! I worked in this company for 14 years, always having very good reviews, having good relation ships with all people and trying to do my best in my work. 3 years ago I dared to get sick, to get cancer and 4 big surgeries. When I came back after my recovery I was surprised it was no place to work for me . But the general manager had a genial solution : to clean and make inventory for the ugliest place in the company, the rooms where everybody threw away unused instruments, cables, connectors, etc. It was a mix of dust, lens, screws, meters, which should be cleaned, and organized. I did this for 1 1/2 years. It was hard but I did. The 2nd genial idea of general manager was my disqualification : from test engineer with PhD in physics (this my offer letter says when I was hired), at my 2014 review I found out that I am considered an assembler with a too big salary. And finally, in February 2016 the company management took the final decision: get rid of this useless, old woman. Here I am right now : I have to pay $2,000/month for my medicines and I have only $1,300/month from SSI. I am not happy at all. No severance, nothing, after 14 years of devoted work for this company which I liked so much.
