Pros
Coming to The Noun Project is an amazing, refreshing experience. The interview process was quick, efficient, and fair with good questions that felt more like a conversation than it did an interview. I was really impressed by the actual offer process, too. Rather than looking at your compensation history and accounting for where you live and making an offer based on that, they treat everyone as equal. The salary offer is based on a range of I think 10 salaries for your role in the LA market, and the mid-point is offered. They also give you the research so you know why the offer is what it is. In all my roles in tech, this is the first that was immensely transparent right from the start. In role, my manager and peers are transparent and open. We discuss ideas, initiatives, and challenges, and collaborate to find solutions. And, everyone has an equal voice. The Noun Project has two separate companies, with Lingo as the sister brand, but we regularly collaborate with each other. The owners are also very transparent between both companies, holding bi-weekly show-and-tell meetings to inform each side of the company with what is being worked on, what is working, and what is not. Likewise we have regular get to know each other meetings, which I feel is important as we're all remote. In regards to benefits and work-life balance, the benefits are pretty good. We have a week where the entire office is closed in December, which is nice as you're able to use your time off more throughout the year rather than saving for the holidays. Likewise, when you're off, you're actually off. You're not expected to answer Slack, nor are you expected to be 'reachable,' even as a manager. As for benefits, the medical/dental/vision insurance is pretty standard—it's not the best I have had but far from the worst. They do have 401k, but no match. And standard vacation is 3 weeks but does increase at I think 4 years to 4 weeks. They also allow you to work a weekend day (with approval from your manager] if you wanted to accrue additional days off for an extended vacation/travel. Time off not taken also can be rolled over. There are several smaller ancillary benefits, like access to One Medical, FSA/HSA, and even pet insurance you can partake in. I have noticed that the owners are constantly aware of what is happening with their employee base, making adjustments as needed and necessary. For example, they recently updated the maternity and paternity leave policy around the same time we had as least one employee going out on leave. All in all, The Noun Project has been one of the more positive cultures I have been part of, and hands down one of the best when it comes to overall work environment.
Cons
I am really going to be stretching here to think of Cons because it's really that awesome of a company. If I had to nit-pick, I wish there was a 401k match program. And, The Noun Project is still a small, scrappy company so sometimes we might not move as fast, or deploy a temporary workaround, which may result in doing things twice. But, honestly, the cons are pretty lean when the company is transparent, communicative, and fair.
Pros
I’ve worked for good companies in the past but Noun Project has been my best experience to this day. Because the company makes a big deal of new employees meeting everyone at the company (they have a sweet process that involves a few daily calls where people share stories and ask questions to the new hired) and because of the bi yearly annual team events, I actually engaged with everyone despite being 100% remote. To my surprise, I found really wonderful people that work well together as a team and legitimately want to hear everyone’s ideas. Noun Project seems to really care about every decisions made and I found myself pleasantly surprised on many occasion about the process for brainstorming solutions, choosing tools and overall discussions.
Cons
None that I can't think of
