The Lavin Agency

Is this your company?

Very poor management. The work can be interesting, but employees are ultimately very dissatisfied. - Anonymous employee The Lavin Agency Employee Review

Pros

Intelligent, creative colleagues. Cool office building and location, great rooftop patio. The hours are good, 9-5 with little to no expectation of working overtime.

Cons

If you're a creative person, you will be stamped down almost immediately. New ideas are not welcome here. Management is very stuck in their ways, and are cowed by company leadership. Definite rule with an iron fist. Not uncommon to see people get fired for no good reason. Salaries are low, except for the sales team, who are constantly under fire to deliver. Everyone and everything is under intense scrutiny; high levels of micromanagement in every department. No transparency, extreme silo issues, and (this is a bigger issue than it seems) slow and outdated computers for all staff. Almost no one is valued here by company leadership, no matter how good you are at your job or how pleasant you are to work with. No real opportunities for growth, very little flexibility, and no support.

Pros

Independence. While the company has a set workday, how you structure your day is up to you. Manage your business, grow your business as you see best. No one looks over your shoulder. You are accountable to you. If asked to do something it is assumed you will do it, there is rarely someone following up to make sure you have taken care of whatever you were asked to do. Co-workers. Everyone gets along with everyone else. It is the only company I know where a Friday afternoon can turn into a social time. For everyone. Success. Every employee is given the opportunity to succeed to level they aspire. Longevity. I have been with the company a long time, many of my peers have as well. Likely for the reasons above. Growth is always in sync with merit. Communication isn’t the best, but it has been my experience that the CEO will always listen.

Cons

LAVIN is not for everyone. The Agency is a leader in its very competitive industry. There is high level talent, varied personality types, and large value deals. The pace can be fast, the days can be a grind, and some days you cannot blink. Sometimes even though you’ve done everything by the book, the deal simply blows up. Frustrating.

Pros

Not expected to work much more than the hours between 9 and 5 (unless you are an event coordinator).

Cons

There will be a rigorous and thorough interview process that puts forth the illusion of a progressive and inspiring company..it is a ruse. Employees at Lavin are commodities not people. You will be immersed in a sea of knowledge, required to know the most progressive ideas, and will constantly learn how good a work place "can be" and "should be" - none of these ideas are inwardly implemented in company culture or environment. Employees quickly become disillusioned and it is not uncommon to see respectable employees fired or demoted while others, who add no substantial value to the company, are praised for working the system. The ideas of employees are not valued, initiative is frowned upon, and ambition is squelched.
