Pros

Fast hiring process, high hourly wage + overtime.

Cons

As a contracted employee for another Institution through The Choice, initially, the benefits seemed to outweigh some of the red flags that appeared when I was first onboarded. The first red flag was how quickly they hired and onboarded me. Typically, for the Institution I would be working at, onboarding takes multiple months. Additionally, in one of my first meetings with the company, the President made a comment about my physical appearance, stating that my hair looked unprofessional (it's curly). As a young woman in the workforce, hearing this from a "woman-led" company was very discouraging. Also, the CFO is literally a man, so ... Communication with The Choice was extremely inadequate and unprofessional. After a successful school year at work (the job followed the school calendar for programming), The Choice wrongfully terminated me (and a colleague) when we asked if it was possible to switch to hybrid work during the summer. Immediately, they ended our contract with the Institution without input from our manager (who did not agree with the decision) and demanded that we return our badges and pack up our stuff. Later, we found out that the Institution was ending its relationship with The Choice as a contractor and that The Choice was trying to end the current contract asap to save money.

Pros

The Choice is awesome! I worked with them on two different assignments a few years apart and they were wonderful both times. My second role was a temp to hire position that resulted in a permeant job. The Choice team was always incredibly warm and supportive of me during my time with them.

Cons

Lack of paid time off was tough

Pros

The Choice is great at getting you placed in a position extremely quickly. Their onboarding is fast and efficient. Larissa is extremely kind and responsive; she was the only person who I felt actually cared about me.

Cons

Overall, a lack of professionalism. Employees will attempt to contact you via text messaging, especially if you dare to not check your email 24/7. There is no professional development. I only ever had one meeting with The Choice employees about a month in on my position; otherwise, they never contacted me afterwards. There were issues with my performance, and I was dismissed without warning. Likewise, I have spoken to others who were wrongfully terminated for daring to ask for a permanent position or a hybrid work option. The way they hand terminations is a disgrace. They are extremely controlling with your days off. At least for my position, there were no paid holidays. Likewise, I only accrued 1 hour of PTO per (roughly) 43 hours worked, so you have to work for months before even being able to take an entire day off. Sorry if you have children or an emergency-just take the day off unpaid! It's not like you're a temp worker in an already precarious financial situation or anything like that. For anyone considering working with The Choice, I'd highly recommend treading lightly. Be careful, and do not count on them for long-term employment. I'd highly recommend seeking out temp work from another agency.
