Pros

If you like flexibility or happen to be a student - it might be perfect for you.

Cons

- First and foremost you do not get paid either at the end of the month nor beginning, but rather, the first Monday of the new month and that payment might also just take all day to hit your bank account. It is not paid at a specific time - also Kronos is not used you have to manually type in your hours via invoice. This topic has been brought up to management to be changed countless times, though nothing ever happens about it. Employee suggestions are rarely ever taken into consideration, even if the entire team is complaining about the same thing. They’ll ask you to update your availability and input the days you’d like to work but they only give you a select few days - maybe 3 out of the 7 shifts you requested will be given to you. - Some of the same people will be assigned more shifts than you, despite you asking for more. - Only 1 30 minute break for the entire day, no matter how many hours you’re doing! -Sometimes they might even cancel your shift if they are experiencing a quiet sale. - Instead of assigning shifts to people that are already on the team, they have this tendency to hire more freelance staff so sometimes your left having worked little to no shifts despite your rota being up to date with your availability. It’s is a very unstable job if you want consistent shifts. - MAJOR communication issues: the manager is very poor at delegating and assigning employees tasks to do (especially during busy sales). The job is barely done well, not surprising as the owner of the store and the manager are friends. - There are also a lot of ‘core’ members of staff that seem to take on the managerial role - so, if you are new to the team, you will not know who the manager is straight away. -Also good to mention that the ‘core’ members are on a salary whereas the rest of the team are on an hourly wage. - As a ‘freelance’ employee expect to be requested to do 3 opposing tasks by completely different people; it might be to help at the tills, changing room & cloakroom all at once by different members of staff, good luck! :) -During the summertime, the retail store is shut - that means if you are not a core member of staff, you will not be paid (not even furlough) between the months of July and September, so expect to find yourself another job during that time. They also close during the Christmas period from mid December to the end of January, so again, find another job for that period. -Sometimes overstaffed thinking + may send you home early & sometimes understaffed - extremely terrible as the manager/core team do not know how to efficiently handle busy days which results in the entire team being overwhelmed and often times upset. -You do not get paid enough for the amount of labour that is required if you happen to be working a weekday shift. It’s warehouse working without the pay (unloading deliveries, setting up shop floor, carrying heavy boxes, individually counting intake of stock) -Can be overwhelming during busy sale days as there are only 2 functioning tills meaning big, long, queues. Very picky and choosy with who gets discounts and how much discount is given - sometimes you get something, sometimes you get nothing !
