Pros

Great mission, decent work/life balance, good benefits

Cons

Working at this company was a challenging experience due to CEO’s ineffective and erratic leadership. Priorities constantly shifted, and these shifts were poorly communicated by CEO, leading to a chaotic work environment that hampered productivity and morale. Communication was another major issue. CEO frequently made unrealistic demands without listening to the team, many of whom had more experience in education. When things went wrong, rather than addressing issues head-on, CEO often deflected responsibility and placed blame on others, resulting in firing or "restructuring" the company to cover up his own shortcomings. My time at this company suffered from poor leadership and a lack of clear strategy, making it an unstable and challenging place to work. I'm a big proponent of the company's mission, but ultimately, I saw these issues as systemic and ongoing with little hope for improvement, and my only option was to leave. Pros

Had real autonomy to design recruiting processes and systems from the ground up rather than just plugging into existing infrastructure. If you like to build, this is the place     •    The mission feels genuinely important and timely. AI is reshaping everything and this org is making sure students and educators don't get left behind. That's easy to get behind     •    Recruiting for AI in education right now is kind of a cheat code. Candidates are already excited before you even get on the call     •    Trusted to make decisions independently without layers of approval. That kind of freedom is rare, especially as a contractor     •    When I needed support or context, people were responsive and communicative. Never felt like I was left on an island     •    The team genuinely cared about getting the details right in hiring, not just moving fast for the sake of it. That matters a lot when you're building out a team     •    Helped hire the org's first dedicated full time recruiter, so the work I did had a lasting impact beyond my contract

Cons

Smaller org means you're sometimes pulling double duty on things outside your core scope, but that's also how you end up with way more influence than you'd get at a bigger company     •    Things move fast and priorities can shift quickly, though leadership is transparent about it and you always understand the why

Pros

1. The org has a clear mission and leaders are very passionate about achieving their goals. 2. The needs of teachers and students are prioritized in decision making. Leaderships makes an effort to collect and use educator feedback to design and improve products/services, and to integrate educators directly into the development/revision process when possible. 3. Compensation for most positions is much higher than market and the benefits are the best I've seen in the industry. Generous annual raises and periodic bonuses were the norm when I was there. 4. Remote work and flexible schedule. There are core working hours in the middle of the day (when timezones overlap). Otherwise, if you get your work done and make it to meetings on time, managers are usually fine with you working at times that are most productive for you. They are very understanding about employees who need flexibility for doctor appts, childcare, school, etc. 5. Leaders are open to critical feedback and eager to improve when they receive it. Employees are encouraged to propose new ideas regardless of seniority. 6. They prioritize hiring experienced educators, particularly public school teachers, to fill Curriculum and Programs roles. Educators are treated as professionals with valuable skills, expertise, and perspectives. This is not an org where tech folks' opinions outweigh educators. If you are a teacher with little to no out-of-school work experience, this org is a great place to learn and grow into nonprofit/office roles. 7. CEO works his a** off to raise money and find partners.

Cons

Sometimes you will work late to meet a deadline or take a meeting but that is pretty rare.
