Pros

Free coffee Gym with showers

Cons

Upper management has run this company into the ground. Tax Analysts has been named a Best Place to Work in the DMV for several years -- what the company doesn't mention is that the award is based on an "anonymous" survey that mgmt uses to call people out when they're honest about being unhappy. Those of us who are unhappy learned from that and refuse to participate in the survey. Further, after 2.5 years of fully remote work during COVID, mgmt is now requiring people to return to the office. They won't accept new hires that want to be fully remote or allow long-term employees to go fully remote to accommodate major life changes (for example, your parent is very sick and you need to move to care for them). To make matters worse, mgmt is also monitoring when employees are in the office by checking their desks and tracking when their cars are in the garage. So that free parking one employee mentioned? Not actually a perk! The company has also moved sharply away from actual editing and now caters to practitioners with huge egos who think their work can't possibly be improved. Imagine trying to feel pride in your job when you aren't allowed to do it. Basically, this used to be a great place to work. Now? Avoid it at all costs. Upper management doesn't care about editing or its people.

Pros

Small, people-first company. Low-key and healthy office culture. Personable and strong leadership team. Great benefits. Strong communication across all departments. Casual dress code is a big plus.

Cons

Work itself can be pretty dry if you don't love tax analysis. Options for advancement are limited.

Pros

Smart, dedicated team Fair pay (limited raises but started high enough) Shorts casual and dog-friendly

Cons

Management lacks creativity or flexibility. Saw a shift from focus on quality to speed/quantity and pandering to bigger names. No training. No room to advance. Ok...so, some people did grow their careers but only those who started very very junior. If you started mid-career, then almost no opportunity to advance...more than 5y and never saw any room to grow.
