Pros

It was a great opportunity to get my start in the food writing world--a lot of great contacts were made through working at Talcott. I also had a lot of freedom editorial-wise to control the content.

Cons

It was tough representing a brand that doesn't have a good reputation in the B2B industry. I also found many of the senior staff members to be unprofessional and caddy.

Pros

As an editor, you get a lot of freedom because the publisher could care less about editorial content. Also, it's a job, and sometimes you just need a job, no matter how crappy.

Cons

If you value your sanity, DO NOT work here. The publisher has a penchant for belittling his staff and undervaluing (and underpaying) those who work hard. Additionally, the company is not financially solvent. Somehow it's still in business, but the staff has been evicted from a former office and plenty of bills went unpaid. The magazines do not get sent out on time because the company can't afford timely distribution. And don't get me started on circulation -- it's a mess.
