Pros
We bring faster internet to residential areas where all people can get is cable or dsl or 5G, so it is rewarding when you hook people up on fiber. Great support & non-discriminating to LGBTQ+ employees and causes. 5 or 6 gays and transitioning staff hold leadership positions which is refreshing. Pride month observances in the office which I really like. Nice new office in The Woodlands and nice new warehouse in O.R.N. are in better locations than last office and warehouse Newer fleet of vehicles and new field tools make job safer although speed limiters on trucks is annoying. We now have good basic benefits like health, dental, 401k and a nice bonus at end of year. Great safety track record and policies keep us safe. Mid and lower level leadership are pretty good. PMO group, CAD / design, field team leadership and supervisors are all great - the VP and directors and management in charge of planning and installation are great to work . IT team, product development, safety, finance leaders are Ok. New CFO is nice. Good-quality fiber network that is growing fast all over North Harris and Montgomery counties and is brinnging fast internet to places where customers are hungry for good service. I have made some great friends over the years but also seen a lot of talent leave in the past year. Monthly manager meetings include free breakfast and we get free breakfast on Fridays. Frequent team outings are fun.
Cons
Nepotism has caused morale to tank. A 100% top-down hierarchical approach to management causes this sick feeling in the air like all is not well. Employees are totally in the dark on major decisions and supervisors take credit for work and ideas that their team members contribute. Spreadsheets are more important than staff, so don't expect any job security (unless you are a friend of the owner). Desire to pump up the perceived value of company to potential buyers of Tachus makes it feel like Execs really don't truly care about employees so lots of us feel undervalued and very expendible. HR is a dead-end when it comes to harrassmment complaints or problems with a supervisor. Frequent network outages (multiple per month) have caused me and my team to to work a lot of unpaid overtime. Marketing, customer care, and sales teams really need fresh, less-doucheesy leaders who aren't just "yes men" to Execs. High turnover of quality leadership team members in the past year is scary. We've lost some great talent this year: really smart and good CFO who got us through COVID left without any explanation from CEO or owner. We just lost our CTO, Product Development director and business sales director - all 3 of them we're huge contributors to Tachus' rapid growth in 2022. Then last year we lost a talented finance person and the co-founder who basically built Tachus by securing the investors and growing us from nothing.
