Pros
If you can mind your own business and do your job it's OK.Good starting point for college grads wishing to get into a Fed position. Also good for those close to retirement. Affordable medical/dental/vision coverage. Good pension plan. Ability to trade shifts if you need a day off or want to pick up extra hours. New friendships with close co-workers.
Cons
Low starting pay. Extremely low hiring bar. Many employees caught stealing are proof of that. Some co-workers cannot even speak clearly and do their jobs poorly. Many think the badge is a license to yell at passengers and mistreat them. Much of this behavior goes unpunished. Supervisors and managers show much favoritism which makes it difficult to achieve good bonus ratings. They ignore the good workers and befriend the lousy ones. I suspect some of this is due to racism. Many of the leads and so- called "acting leads" mistreat officers and speak down to them. You will not be recognized for your efforts. Like the private sector, it's not what you know but who you know.
