Pros

Most people here are truly passionate about self driving. As a result, you are learning something and coming across new ideas everyday when you talk with people. Also, this is a company with a strong business sense. At its core, I personally think Torc is about profitably implementing autonomous driving tech and not just trying out cool stuff for the sake of it! All of this makes molds you into a good engineer with some sound common sense. Definitely a very good place to kickstart your roboticist career!

Cons

I think the location of the company in Blacksburg makes it not very appealing to people who like the city lifestyle. The company is in a phase of rapid growth. This is currently causing frequent changes in business processes / milestones. This is not always a bad thing, but Torc could use a little more stability :)

Pros

Working at Torc has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The technology we're building is genuinely world-changing — autonomous trucking has the potential to transform how goods move across the country, and being part of that mission makes the work feel meaningful every single day. The pace is fast, which keeps things engaging. There's always something new to tackle, and the environment pushes you to grow quickly. If you thrive on momentum and like seeing your contributions matter, you'll feel right at home here. One thing that stands out is the flexibility around work hours. It's clear that leadership trusts employees to get the job done without micromanaging when or how you do it. That kind of autonomy makes a real difference for work-life balance.

Cons

The fast pace isn't for everyone — be ready to hit the ground running
