Terrible, unethical brand whose employment practices are exploitative - Sales Assistant TOAST (UK) Employee Review

- Not a Living Wage Employer, despite claiming to be an ethical, responsible company. - 'Not good enough' rating from Good On You an independent brand rating company for ethical, sustainable clothing. All of Toast's claims for the ethics of its products are without evidence, as a result their sustainability documents are in effect simply marketing materials. - Despite using diverse models on in their campaigns, the overwhelming majority of Toast staff a from white backgrounds. - Poor management, particularly from Zoe and Sofia in their Islington store. Both of these managers displayed a lack of integrity and poor communication skills. They're inauthentic, disingenuous and lacking in care for other employees. In short, they do not embody the stated values of the brand. - Most staff are employed on contracts that provide very few hours but are expected to fulfil overtime, which is allocated without consent. If an employee challenges this, asking only to work their contracted hours for example, they are disciplined or let go. This is unethical where overtime is not contractually mandated. - When concerns are raised regarding the management's behaviour or approach, the response is surface level, very defensive, lacking in transparency and with no effort to learn from failings to improve workplace culture.
