Pros
Some of the most creative and passionate people you will ever meet work here. Everyday, you have the opportunity to bring joy and delight to guests and it's heartwarming to make children happy. Whether it be playing with toys to doing science demonstrations to running dome shows.
Cons
I left because management did not value the labour of the staff. For three years, my wage remained the same ($16.32) – this is in comparison to other tourist institutions which offer at least $20. Despite that, the roles of science guides only increased. There is a genuine disconnect between floor staff and the office staff; floor staff have concerns regarding working conditions (e.g. standing for prolonged periods, loud noises), but office staff dismiss concerns as needless complaints. I stayed for so long there because my coworkers were amazing. But there was no future there, no pathways to leadership nor prospects for wage increases.
