terrible management extremely low pay (as a manager you are better off working for McDonalds. seriously). some people have worked here for years with no raise. management (again, seriously it’s atrocious): managers are required to sell, which causes a lot of problems with staff dynamics customer service: the worst i have ever experienced. customers who just want to buy a beautiful 70$ book are ignored and treated badly, in favor of the customers who will buy the 6000$ book. this kind of customer service is encouraged by management. summary: this is the kind of place where you walk in to work and they tell you you’re fired before your key turns. this is not a job about publishing, events, art or anything they put on the job description; it’s about selling 10k books plain and simple. you are expected to sell half a million dollars worth of these books in your first three months, with no guidance, tools or encouragement. You will be scared every day until the day they let you go for not reaching their unspecified expectations.
