Pros

Free professional healthcare clinic for you and your family (including generic medicine, also for free). 5% matching 401k. Typically you get as many hours as you want. They wont lay you off if the lumber stops selling as much, they will just reduce your hours. Your schedule can be very flexible (depending on your job) and the supervisors are friendly for the most part. Free dental (sorta).

Cons

The pay is one of the lowest in the manufacturing industry. If you push for a raise they will assure you that you will receive it (assuming you are a good worker and show up everyday) but ultimately it will not happen until you try to leave. There is no annual raises, incentives, or compensations to stay with the company outside of the annual profit sharing check. This profit sharing bonus is used against you to justify your lower than normal pay but also is repeatedly said to be something that is "not guaranteed" and "the owners do not have to give you this and do not owe you anything." So once the owners are paid their portion and all their taxes, expenditures and projects are paid then the pool is formed. If lumber is being produced at a good rate and is selling for a high price and selling well then you will see a good profit sharing check. The last two years have been awesome. Before then there was a year with no bonus and one with about a 10k bonus (depending on your pay rate). Typically the bonus is around 10-15k, again depending on your pay. Note that in order to receive what is considered to be your portion of the profit sharing check you must have been a full time employee for 3 years. At 3 years you get 100%, 2 is 66.67%, 1 is 33.33% and so on. This is calculated by the months since your hire. So if you do get a profit sharing check and haven't been here for 3 years you will be given a portion of what you actual were to receive, the other portion is split amongst the other employees that have been here for 3+ years. If you are someone that has to be mobile around the sawmill grounds then you will be required drive your pov unless you are a millwright/electrician/certain salary supervisors. There is no compensation for gas, tires with nails in them, cracked windshield, general wear and tear, etc. If you are not given a cellphone by the company you will have to use your personal cellphone. They also will not mention the discount you get with ATT and the compensation you supposed to receive for using your phone. If you don't have a family of your own or significant other the healthcare clinic is pretty much useless. Dental is free, however; what they don't tell you is that you can only spend $750 annually and this allotment is applied in portions. So if you go to the dentist for a filling you will pay 80-90% of the bill and the other 10-20% of the bill will be taken out of the $750. The turnover rate of new employees is fairly high. While this is not specifically due to any actions by the company it does force you to cover other jobs.
