Pros

- You get to work with great people who love the Lord and always seem to have endless energy - No expenses at camp because everything is paid for (meals/transportation/lodging) - Staff genuinely cares about each coach and builds solid relationships with everyone - HUGE learning experience - Small bits of time off during the week - You get to work with kids AND adults - Close to Gruene and San Antonio for weekend time-off - The people you work with become your best friends

Cons

You work 6 days of the week (12 pm Sunday-12 pm Saturday). It's long hours and low pay, but you get a lot out of it. Even though the compensation isn't great, since all things are paid for by camp other than what you do during your 24 hours off, it is easy to save up what you do earn.

Great community and support. The connections into a good christian community are fantastic.

Pros

The job itself is very fun being outside all day. Getting to drive boats, work on the ropes course and getting to work on strengthen a relationship with a Christ if that’s what you’re looking for!

Cons

The leadership team is very selective and shows favoritism throughout the entire summer. If you are one of the ‘cool’ counselors, you have access to things others don’t, such as back rooms, extra snacks, leadership cabins. And if you want to move up past a Coach/Counselor level, they won’t move you to a higher leadership position unless you are friends with the people in charge. It was really disheartening when they preach acceptance but the community thrives with exclusivity and popularity competitions. They also do not compensate staff for nearly the amount of hours or work out in. I think it is a misuse of power to pay college students so low because they are promised a fun summer.
