Pros
You want to learn? You want to be in IT? A year at Synoptek is worth more than 3 in a corporate environment. You will not learn more in the same period of time working for any other company. Period. Some teams are unbelievable and have great people on them. Some of the funniest and coolest people to work with as well as smartest and technical savvy. The access to systems, for knowledge, is not better anywhere else, outside of MS, Dell, or insanely large company. Any and all techs/engineers are afforded the chance to own environments, to learn and grow, and not get stuck doing just password resets. It is encouraged in most circumstances too. Put in a year or 2 at Synoptek and you will know more about IT than you could ever have imagined.
Cons
I've read all these reviews on GlassDoor and believe all of them to be accurate. Every single one of them. Re-read them, the 1 year mark is about where it goes downhill because the experience a tech/engineer receives starts level off and the stress of the environment takes hold. Some teams are full of nepotism and will bad mouth you to every person in an office (IE Boise). Policies are subjective depending on which team you work on, which clients you support, and which senior management team member you know. If you need help learning, you better know the right people. Too many teams look out for their own and truly don't care about assisting another team. "Throw it over the fence" or "It's not my team so I don't have to pick up the P2". Those teams who do help are not rewarded or even commended. Too many mergers/acquisitions, too many tool sets, and not enough trained staff to support the various clients. "24x7" service desk is a lie. They barely staff a night and weekend shift, just enough to do nothing but sleep and let the day shifts fight fires all week. Synoptek does not care about it's people. They say they care about their clients but they care only when they are in trouble. Then, that care will only be just enough to get the client back up, not enough to actually solve any problems. It creates a horrible place to be, it creates miserable employees, and it burns you out.
