Pros
Working with direct reports are generally great. Schedule is flexible as arrange or your meetings with your reports. Other line managers are great and very supportive. Unlimited PTO pending backup coverage but managers are always willing to backup.
Cons
Micromanagement is now common. Upper management has stated they don't micromanage but this is the opposite of what is occurring. Trackers have been created and require maintenance by the manager for every aspect of the position. A tracker now exists that lists all the trackers created and managers have to update when is the last time they updated the tracker in that tracker. Upper management also tends to be abrasive. Several managers left when upper managers were selected due to their personalities. Upper management will state it was for better opportunities but when managers are leaving for lateral positions this can't be the case.
