Pros

I’ve been at Symbotic for two years with experience in the site operations and office operations. In the time I’ve been here I’ve seen the company transition from a cowboy oriented startup to a process driven machine. Toxic people are being replaced, and the management skills are now in the right positions. The company has had some ups and downs, and it’s great to see we are entering a period of stability and direction. Symbotic asks a lot of its employees, and rewards those who are driven to make a difference. Working under the software teams is excellent. Operations is dependent on the relationship with the customer and warehouse culture.

Cons

Since Symbotic is a multi faceted company with many technologies between each of the teams there is sometimes a lack of communication cross team. Training for new hires and documentation could largely be improved. (Management is currently addressing this, but may take some time). Most guys learn trial by fire, and coworker tribal knowledge. Certain teams may be a bit over worked and burnt out given the workload. Some managers forget to recognize subordinates successes.

Pros

Interesting technology and exposure to advanced automation systems. Opportunity to work on complex engineering projects.

Cons

Poor work-life balance with high expectations and little flexibility. Communication from leadership and the general manager was very limited, making it difficult to stay aligned. There was also a lack of transparency around performance expectations and job security. Even when performing well and fully understanding the environment and workflows, employees could be let go without warning or a second chance. This creates unnecessary turnover and results in lost knowledge, requiring time and resources to retrain new engineers who are unfamiliar with the systems.
