Pros

Pay is good, fun technology, and smart engineers. The company tries to do some fun culture building activities but it is not enough to balance out the cons.

Cons

Do not let the recent positive reviews fool you. Symbotic is one of the worse places I have ever worked. 1) Symbotic lacks focus . The company is going in way too many different directions at once. The best companies and CEOs I have worked for focus on 1 - 2 major areas and rally its employees around those few items. For Symbotic, the 1 major item should be stabilizing the product. While there is an effort there it is dilluted with competing efforts. Why would they be hiring 20+ product management staff when we don't have stabiliy? If it takes that many product owners/product management staff, something is wrong. 2) Symbotic does not value its employees. Instead the message received is that employees are simply resources to move around rather than people with personal lives, career goals and passion to produce high quality solutions. Our engineers are very smart. Set goals, provide engineers & teams with what they need and get out of their way! Great engineers build great products. Symbotic needs to let engineers focus on getting things stable, get hardware and software reliable, then ramp up growth and bring on the huge deals. 3) Symbotic lacks solid executive management from the CEO down to his directs. There is also an arrogance at that level of the company that is off-putting. Different groups are off solving the same problems without any coordination. There needs to be tighter control of what groups are working on what. Dates are also set with customers too far in advance that by the time they get to software and hardware there is little "margin" and any resistance from engineering is met with "I don't care, hit the date!" The result is very low quality implementations often resulting in employees working overtime to fix crappy software, while others are shipped onsite to debug issues. What follows? Plummeting morale. 4) Benefits - While the pay is good, the benefits are sub-par. Healthcare is expensive if you have anything beyond basic check-ups/physicals. 401k, however, was recently reinstated, a positive change. Steer clear of Symbotic until it can solve these problems. I am not referring anyone to this company until they do so. While the technology is cool, with lack of strong executive management, they will be passed by competitors eventually

Pros

Interesting technology and exposure to advanced automation systems. Opportunity to work on complex engineering projects.

Cons

Poor work-life balance with high expectations and little flexibility. Communication from leadership and the general manager was very limited, making it difficult to stay aligned. There was also a lack of transparency around performance expectations and job security. Even when performing well and fully understanding the environment and workflows, employees could be let go without warning or a second chance. This creates unnecessary turnover and results in lost knowledge, requiring time and resources to retrain new engineers who are unfamiliar with the systems.
