Pros

The pros about the school are the many (though not all) wonderful coworkers who genuinely care about kids and are team players. It is also extremely rewarding to be able to help such socially and emotionally needy youth. The school union is also made up of many caring coworkers who try their best to improve conditions. But their hands are often tied by unsupportive administrators.

Cons

This is really tough place to teach! It's difficult enough to teach troubled students with many social problems. But the real kicker is the almost total lack of administrative support. Not only do administrators have little to no presence, most (though not all) treat teachers like the whipping boys and girls for any problems that arise. They also make if very difficult to take days off for illness, and even the office staff are rude and demeaning should a question or need arise. Ironically, they do not see the connection between this blatant unprofessionalism and their extreme shortage of staff!

Pros

There is not a single pro here that outweighs a single one of the cons.

Cons

Administration, from the very to to the very bottom, is utterly incompetent, hostile, and cruel to both staff and students. Teachers and assistants are the lowest paid and pay a greater percentage of health care costs than any other districts in Sullivan and neighboring Orange counties. The employee turnover rate and difficulty finding replacements (multiple full-time teaching vacancies are the norm, sometimes taking a year or more to fill). Students are not being given anything that resembles an education for most of their day, and teachers aren't given an ounce of respect from any direction. Do not work here if you value your physical and mental health. I have never worked in a place (school or otherwise) with such horrifically low morale. It truly feels like a failing institution by intentional design rather than circumstance. It is the true embodiment of the idea that those who can't teach become administrators.
