Pros

Strong tight-knit culture where you can reach out to anyone for assistance Top tier clients in the industries they specialise in Partners transparent and open to feedback Fast promotions recently to retain talent Salary as good as it gets for boutique Wide exposure and range of great development/learning/training opportunities (strong focus on using the same approach as MBB firms) Fast growing

Cons

Being a boutique firm, there are challenges that are intrinsic and almost impossible to change for a firm this size unless they grow significantly: - Don’t expect a salary with the tier 1 global consultancies - Expect volatile work life balance if you are assigned to multiple projects at once (volatility in other consultancies as well however) - Small firm so can’t specialise in too many industries at once.. expect to do a LOT of education, research and government work (although they are actively working to grow/develop their consumer/FS services for example with some top tier clients in these spaces)

Strategic Project Partners Response

I am sorry to hear you found your work-life balance at SPP to be absent. It is something we seek to avoid so clearly in this case we have failed. We do try to schedule people on work in a way that is reasonable, including rostering business development and avoiding any concept of "magic time". Strategic (creative, open ended) consulting can be very demanding - it does require a different level of daily intensity to other forms of consulting. At the same time we do need to do better in this regard. With regard to Managers and Partners expecting people to "figure it out" - again, we do try to provide a reasonable amount (above industry benchmark" of Partner time on projects. We do also seek to outline any study we are undertaking to help clarify the project and the analytical task for the team. There will always be a degree of self-managed research on any project. But we can always do better.
