Pros

Great environment technology wise and very very casual.

Cons

The position was literally just listening to clips and then clicking yes or no. If you like going insane this position is for you. The company dresses up the listing to make it sound like it actually involves marketing... it doesn't, but rather is the most minimalistic data entry you will ever come across. There are supposed advancements, but the contract says that they are not promised, but based on review, so if you are lucky and stick it out 6 months clicking boxes yes or no...you might get offered a bit more money...MIGHT. Company is likely to respond to this post trying to cover their rear, it's also something they do. I think it's sad that: A. Straight North is a digital marketing company that posts false reviews of their own business to pad sites such as Glassdoor. B. Aggressively responds to each complaint trying to cover up their issues rather than address them. C. I really have to highlight the point they pad their reviews and post generic copy reviewing their own firm to boost their credibility...

Thanks for your review. It seems you were unhappy with the position that you willfully accepted at Straight North. I would like to clear up any misunderstanding you may have had when accepting this job. While we employ over 60 amazing staff members who are experts in their fields, we realize that everyone needs to start their career somewhere. The purpose of this role is to allow entry level applicants the opportunity to join a growing company and work their way up. The job description for the entry level Internet Marketing Analyst position is clearly defined and public for everyone to see on our website under the Careers section. Furthermore, we make sure candidates for this position completely understand what this entry level role entails during the interview process. The Internet Marketing Analyst position serves a very important role in our day-to-day operations. It is counterintuitive for us to hire new staff members into a role where they are not happy and cannot advance with the company. Staff members in this role normally move up to a specialist role within 3-6 months and they always receive a raise on the 6 and 12 month mark. We have a number of current staff members that can vouch for this. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings you may have had. We will work to do a better job of making sure new hires in this position completely understand what this job entails and how they will advance in our company. It's unfortunate that the experience of your job decision caused you to accuse us of posting fake reviews. Every review posted on this website has been done so by a past or present Straight North employee under their own free will. These reviews contain honest personal opinions of our company by our employees and no reviews on this website have ever been falsely created. We wish you the best of luck with your future career path. Sincerely, Aaron Wittersheim Chief Operating Officer

Pros

Straight North is a great place for those seeking long-term employment with a company that they can proudly stand by. Truly, this agency is what many job seekers in the marketing industry hope for in terms of culture and management. SN is very flexible. Whether it's setting hours, PTO requests, or special accommodations, this company is reasonable. Management is also understanding and works with you. You will not find tyrannical micromanagers here, just down-to-earth, kind-hearted individuals. The workplace is akin to a collaborative classroom where we're constantly learning and trying new strategies. Every employee is talented and valued for it. In the 5+ years of working here, I've never had a bad interaction with my coworkers. In fact, it's always been insightful, supportive, and fun. One more thing to highlight at Straight North is the HR department. Anytime I describe some of the benefits or culture to friends and family, they're all baffled (albeit jealous) at how understanding and positive our HR is. Issues get resolved quickly, perks are always getting refreshed or added, and you never feel ignored. Truly, one of the shining lights of Straight North.

Cons

The first couple of years were difficult due to low pay, but after some promotions and bonuses, salary is no longer a top concern. Although it is still not ideal nor consistent, it's way better than the first two years of employment. Certain departments receive more opportunities and recognition than others, but I feel that's how it is across many marketing agencies. Straight North has tried to address this, and I believe this imbalance isn't intentional.
