Pros

Friendly staff, calm environment for the most part, good location, PC issues or lack of tools are corrected quickly.

Cons

Limited opportunities for growth because family is prioritized, full shift working on the computer M-F, inner circle for those who worked a very long time, personality is favored over productivity, no training structure or manual to refer to so material is learned on the fly, mistakes can cause huge interruptions to other teams (high pressure). wages are a little below competitive,

Pros

It's a family company, the board members and CEO are all related, once you work there you become part of the family and they can be very warm. They pay 100% or health insurance after 3 months as well as holiday bonuses and generous amount of vacation and sick days, which increase with time. The staff is very friendly and their lunch-room is roomy and well equipped. They have holiday parties as well as cake on everyone's birthday and the bosses like having out-of-office get-togethers to maintain team cohesion and camaraderie. If you enter or move up to Senior Trader, there is a lot of travel involved, which is a positive for me.

Cons

Even though it's relatively small, there isn't a lot of mentorship from the supervisors, I was taught the inner workings of the company by my co-workers and keeping my eyes & ears open, they prefer to hire people in there 40's & older and seem to have little interest or patience in developing young talent. The most of the senior traders are part of the family, so there isn't a lot of room for promotion unless someone leaves the company, and there are only three levels: Board member/owner, Senior Trader, Junior trader (my position). All other departments such as accounting, shipping or IT, are so small, specific and separate from what the company does, that there is no track for them to follow upwards.
