State Compensation Insurance Fund

Is this your company?

SCIF is an insurance company with all the trappings of a state agency without a shred of business acumen. - IT Associate Analyst State Compensation Insurance Fund Employee Review

Pros

In short, SCIF is a job source with few demands. You can sleep under your desk and still get paid. The union will protect your job at all cost. One can sleep at night without worrying about whether one's performance will affect one's career, the company's future, or just about anything else. Advancement is relatively easy, although nepotism is rampant.

Cons

Your co-workers may be asleep, surfing the web, reading books, etc. at their desks while you do productive work, but you'll be paid just as much as them. This is the flip side of a pro. If you are a conscientious employee, you will get the shaft. Accepting that fact is necessary in order to continue working at SCIF without losing your mind or becoming a cynical, mean-spirited grouch who cannot help but express hatred for the slackers. Your co-workers' poor performance and refusal to work is rewarded in two ways: (1) they get less work and (2) you get more work. Again, just accept this if you have a shred of integrity and want to continue working at SCIF.

Pros

Remote work, some job security

Cons

"In my opinion" 🙄 I feel I was deceived as to what my job would be here. We discussed certain things beforehand and in the interview, then my actual time spent here is almost entirely different than what we discussed, they have made it clear they will not change a thing. Bait and switch tactics to hire employees - then have them do things we didn't agree on, ethics problems, we are underpaid based on CalHR classification yet company refuses to correct it, layers of managers trying to seem useful.
