Pros

Fully remote, some travel for conferences

Cons

The founders wanted a magic pill solution for sales and growth when the hard work was needed from the team as a whole (i.e. SMEs needed to collaborate to make content). This is not a one-person experience; the same result came when a marketing firm was hired as well. The company wants to do things their way and any outsider strategic recommendation is met with resistance and close mindedness. Not a great place to work if you want your voice to be heard and your expertise taken seriously.

Pros

I had a great experience working here for ~7 years. I started as a junior swe and grew into a senior role. The team is small (~10 people) with low turnover and everyone is extremely friendly and super supportive. It was always easy to get help when I needed it. All of leadership has a strong software engineering background which means that high quality code is more of a priority throughout the codebase which was great for me as a developing engineer. They are pretty thorough when reviewing PRs which I personally liked because I could learn from more experienced devs. Work-life balance was solid, and remote work made it easy to manage personal and professional life. They also schedule a yearly retreat (it's half work and half play) so you get to actually meet the people you're on zoom with all day.

Cons

Since it’s a small company, there’s not a ton of formal structure. I personally prefer this management style but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Pros

* Small team of highly talented engineers who have a #1 priority of exceeding customer needs * World class company that genuinely cares about its employees * Open culture where asking questions and learning is highly valued * Weekly "book clubs" where we discuss a variety of or tech or science related topics to keep our brains fresh and ideas relevant * Variety of different directions to grow based on their need and your curiosity * Absolutely zero micromanagement * Frequent reviews to discuss career path goals and making sure you have the tools you need to hit them * Great work/life balance * Ability to work remote full time

Cons

* (for some) - A small company working remotely across 3 large cities does have a unique set of challenges . Must be self starting and self driven. The desire to perform must come from within. There are coworking spaces that StackWave provides in each city, but no mandatory days means that meeting up with coworkers can take a little planning.
