In about 9 months, around 10 nurses have quit from one department alone. It's a pretty bad sign if you're losing a little over 1 nurse per month. If you’re hired as a variable employee, don’t be surprised if you flip flop between days and nights. Pay is extremely low. $49/hr for new grads, $59/hr for staff nurse II starting out. HR does not follow the union contract regarding pay either. Make sure to negotiate for your pay. Union has no power at this hospital, contract negotiations stalled and have no signs of life. Everyone at this hospital is burnt out and you'll get attitude from staff members. If you're drowning, you might get help if you have friends working at the same time and they're not drowning either. Staffing is kept to the bare minimum. Staff turnover is insane and experienced nurses are replaced with new grads every few months. All PTO requests will be denied. Patients can be pretty aggressive, its a good month if a staff member isn't assaulted and hurt.
