Pros

In my many years as a special education teacher, my most recent 3 years with Spring Academy have been among the best. As I prepare to retire, I am grateful that I was part of this wonderful team of professionals. The school, which offers 1 to 1 instruction on-site, lives up to its promises to provide students with an education tailored to their specific needs by highly skilled teachers. Additionally, some teachers work off-site ,in many Seattle private schools, providing individualized instruction to students with special needs. You will find the instructors to be knowledgeable, dedicated, reliable and effective - a result of their ongoing collaboration and strong belief that every student can succeed when their strengths are supported with appropriate teaching methods. Behind, and essential to, the success of our students and instructors are our president, Rob Hauser, our principal, Ryan Malone, and our executive director, Thomas O'Keefe. I cannot say enough positive about their unfailing and absolute commitment to the success of all of us. They are genuinely caring and dedicated to making the school and staff the best we can be. Their positive and proactive approach is what every teacher, parent and student hopes for and my experience with Spring Academy will be the one I look back to when I remember why I went into teaching in the first place.

Cons

I can't really identify any traditional "cons" to working for Spring Academy. Hours are flexible, administration is supportive and responsive, and we are trusted to be the professionals we were trained to be. As this is a non-traditional setting, if you are looking for a traditional one, you won't find it here. What they achieve more than makes up for that.

Pros

I really loved almost everything about this position and organization.

Cons

None really - If I had to comment, I would note, as an independent teacher, you do not directly work with the other teachers in the organization on a regular basis.

Pros

The annual contract is from October to May, so if you have school age children this aligns well with your family needs. The hourly wage is very rewarding, and health, dental and vision benefits are available. Retirement benefits (401k) are available. The company culture is very collegial and free from curricula constraints due to school board contracts; teachers work together to continuously review curriculum and make improvements.

Cons

This is a great company! The only downside is that you may outgrow the need to work only 8 months out of the year as your children mature. This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher desiring to work part time.
