Pros

Many people employed at Spliced are super nice individuals and highly skilled professionals - especially people on the ground, but also some of its leaders. We who left the company are grateful for the connections and friendships we made at Spliced.

Cons

A notable minority of individuals in leadership positions at Spliced have repeatedly demonstrated low levels of empathy and emotional intelligence in their interactions, leading to a toxic work environment for those unfortunate enough to be led by said individuals. Such behaviours have been reported across different teams, so they are not isolated incidents; they are enabled by the company's culture. Small misunderstandings that would normally be easy to resolve can unnecessarily turn into larger conflicts, as open dialogue is discouraged and the expression of honest feedback can often lead to severe repercussions. A lack of clarity and alignment in the guidance given by different directors can often create a political minefield that is dangerous to navigate. Doing your best work while being a good team player is not enough to succeed at Spliced; if you fail at appeasing the right people's egos, your job there can turn from dream to nightmare very fast.

Pros

The talented and friendly people within the company you get to speak to and learn from on a day-to-day basis. The flexibility and benefits are also a nice positive.

Cons

Communication can often be challenging. There have been murmurings about bullying and a lack of empathy from certain individuals in higher management, which often went unaddressed. Overall this created an unprofessional environment and culture which did not reflected what was advertised about the studio. It was often hard to feel supported or defended, particularly when issues raised.

Pros

Great benefits, massive sense of ownership of the content you produce, with decent amount of creative control. A lot is being done to give everyone a real understanding of the direction, progress and accomplishments across departments and the project as a whole. You do see the bigger picture and where your work fits into it. Incredible wealth of experience and skill of senior staff, without a sense of detachment or ego issues - folks are friendly, open and not overly formal. Unprecedented amount of flexibility with other responsibilities during work hours Good production and planning, with a lot of room for negotiating and adjusting and no crunch in my experience thus far.

Cons

Remote work focus does lead to a sense of isolation and loneliness and there aren't many opportunities to casually connect with your coworkers Remotely working with people on other continents oftentimes HR has sometimes been quite disconnected from the development team There are some issues with lacking or outdated documentation As anywhere else, your content will may be re-scoped, reduced or outright cut from the final project Symptomatic of the industry in general, there is a big disproportion between the number of men and women you end up working with. The people are genuinely progressive and wholeheartedly inclusive, but it is something to be mindful of
