Pros
While working for Songfinch, I enjoyed the flexible hours and felt the pay was fair for part-time contract work while I was a college student.
Cons
Unfortunately, my time with the company ended without warning. A month went by without a song request, and I assumed this was due to it being a slower season between holidays. Another month passed, and I decided something must be wrong, as I had been getting regular work for two years. Sure enough, when I logged into my account, it had my profile set to "taking a break" which I never set it to be. Upon emailing them to correct this, I received a generic, impersonal email that I was let go because my sound was no longer what they were looking for. When I wrote back asking for more details and requesting someone to call me to explain why no one reached out to me in the first place (i.e. I had to find out I was let go by prying over email), I received back another impersonal message saying I just wasn't meeting their quota.
I completely understand that music is highly subjective, and if my numbers were not performing at that time, I see how it would not be lucrative for the company to keep me. However, I am disappointed that a company that claims to support and help artists grow would let me go: a) without any prior warning that I wasn't drawing in the numbers they needed, and b) by deactivating my profile without letting me know, to make it seem like I left. This added so much confusion during 2 months where I could have been looking for another job had I known I was let go. Moreover, they had been sending me nothing but positive feedback over my 2 years with them, that my sound was exactly what they were looking for and that my clients were happy. Thus, if they gave me an indication there was something to improve, I absolutely would have done so but was never given the chance. Overall, I would not recommend working here for the lack of stability and communication. They do not even have a phone number you can contact for support.
