Pros

Strong autonomy and room to own marketing strategy — especially in campus settings. Opportunities to build concepts from scratch and drive measurable engagement. Benefits are decent, and you get exposure to a wide range of campuses and client dynamics. Some truly passionate people on the front lines doing great work for students and staff.

Cons

Leadership changes drastically altered the tone and culture. What used to be a collaborative and flexible role became micromanaged and directionless. “More marketing” is often thrown around with no clear metrics, strategy, or understanding of the performance data already in play. Internal recognition and career growth feel tied more to perception than outcomes. Decisions often ignore feedback from those closest to the work, which creates friction and stifles innovation. Communication breakdowns across departments are common, and marketing is expected to fill the gaps without added support.
