Pros
I'm sure it varies store to store but AWESOME people to work with. Relatively easy job, generally not a lot of stress on the driving side of things. Acceptable pay if you're a contracted driver. Not as great if you're a company driver, but if you don't need a lot of money the trade off is you don't have to drive your own vehicle or pay for your own gas or maintenance. Good discount on auto parts, establish good relationships with the people at garages too if you need work done. Decent place to get more of a hands on education with cars and car parts
Cons
As a driver, long days and generally a lot of miles. Which is more pay, but I worked every week day from anytime from 8 in the morning to 7 at night. Times varied, but regardless every day was pretty much shot. Because I developed relationships with the counter staff, I can say this from that side. Pay raises seem to be infrequent and hard to get. That's not necessarily unique to Smyth, but it seems to be a point of frustration at least in the store I worked out of. Bonuses for counter people are apparently insignificant and almost aren't even worth trying for. They seem to try to find ways NOT to pay people for holidays. If a holiday falls on what is generally a person's scheduled day off, they don't get holiday pay. If they were off or on vacation before the holiday within a certain time frame they don't get holiday pay. The shuffling parts from store to store can be a mess. Parts not in stock in the store need to be ordered, and it can be hours or the next day even before they can be delivered to a customer. Sales have been lost because of parts that weren't in stock at our store but could be had elsewhere.
