Pros

Relaxed working atmosphere, some very nice and very qualified staff.

Cons

Very industrial office location - ie, filthy. Outdated computers. No advancement opportunity unless you're directly related to the family. Tight with the budget to a fault - costing the company more in time used to search for a better deal than the amount saved. Support staff is expected to take on responsibilities not job related and not compensated for, for instance - marketing, sales support, research. Senior staff positions are given to family regardless of their capability.

Pros

Smith Midland cares about its employees and invests in their professional development. For those who are motivated and willing to take the classes and training, there is a great deal of opportunity to grow within the company. As to other benefits, there are affordable options for dental, vision and 401K. Plus, they give us free hams and turkeys at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Cons

The medical benefits aren't great. Their self insurance has a high deductible and a very limited network of providers, it's nearly impossible to find local specialists that are covered by the company's health plan. Even worse, they offer no out-of-network coverage at all.
