Pros

Participants are experiencing difficult times and it is gratifying to know that sometimes you are helping someone from being in an even more dire situation. Good RRSP contributions and reasonable benefits.

Cons

Limited leadership and a toxic culture that relies on entrenched discrimination, racism, intolerance. The fact that the women and trans peeps who are supported are in desperate spaces so any help seems like an improvement. Trauma services without trauma informed practices.

Pros

History of advocating and caring for marginalized women, used to be a champion for peer rights and harm reduction, will meet great coworkers

Cons

Toxic toxic toxic, all the way to its roots. Serves a great need in the communtiy but the organization has gone thru way too much, All the best most dedicated workers are now gone, they were treated terribly. NOt a place if you're someone with integrity and lived experience. The union doesnt care about its peer workers (left them behind) creating the very system you're trying to fight against. Coworkers ultimately give into the toxicity through gossip and negative interactions that will leave you scratching your head. There are the best of staff (most of them gone) and the ones who have no idea what they're doing, and all this impacts service delivery. It is a system based on profit (for those in power) over people. You will not find opportunities to truly grow and move forward here. Cause there's always a fire.
