Pros

I am impressed with the number of long-term employees at SVM. There are many people in the company that have worked at SVM for 10, 15 and 20 years. That says something about the working environment, compensation, benefits and company management. I like that SVM is a stable company. It has gone from a one man show in 1990 to being the largest Distributor of silicon wafers and services in the world. The company is growing and profitable. It is important for me that I work in a financially strong/stable company. The vibe in the company is positive and friendly. When I am at work, I am surrounded by nice, motivated, hard working, successful people. The office environment is open and airy with lots of natural light. My coworkers overall have a great sense of humor, which I enjoy, and makes it a pleasant place to spend the day. I am inspired by people I work with and constantly amazed by what we achieve as a team.

Cons

SVM is a small company which may not be for everybody. Your work (for better or worse) is highly visible to everyone in the company. Poor/average performers don't tend to make it.

Pros

- Coworkers are great and like family. - Unlimited potential upside in sales position. Sales managers make a 20% commission of the margin that they bring in for the company. There is no cap on commission so if you work hard enough you can make some serious money. - Once you are established as a Sales Manager with a good base of accounts, you have a lot of flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity. - I've gotten to travel the world to lots of amazing places meeting with customers. All throughout Europe and Asia.

Cons

- Mostly hands-off management style. This can be a plus but if you are not the best self-starter then you may struggle. - Poor work/Life balance. You are expected to always be available/working and answer emails from customers promptly, even if it is the weekend or after hours. We work with customers around the globe so it's not uncommon to have business calls in the early morning (Europe) or late afternoon/night (Asia).

Pros

I have worked at SVM for over 14 years and it is an excellent company to work for. SVM is a company that cares a lot about its employees and the environment. One of the things I like about SVM is that it is a green company. Not only does SVM recycle - bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, packing material, etc., we also look to make improvements to our building to help the environment and save cost. About 90% of the power we use comes from our rooftop and carport solar panels, all installed by our sister company, Vista Solar. SVM also installed electric car chargers under the carport free for employees to use and charge their vehicles. More recently because of the drought, the company installed artificial grass and also a new internet-based watering system that only waters when plants need water. Several years ago, the company switched out nearly all of our lights, both inside and outside the building, to LED - a big project but a big cost-savings measure. Bottom line is that SVM is both environmentally friendly company and a great company to work for.

Cons

Like most companies, SVM see fluctuations in the marketplace from time to time. So there can be up and downs. However, since SVM is a small company, we have been able to come together as a team to adapt and change with the market to stay profitable and successful no matter what the market conditions are.
