Pros

I have worked at SVM for over 14 years and it is an excellent company to work for. SVM is a company that cares a lot about its employees and the environment. One of the things I like about SVM is that it is a green company. Not only does SVM recycle - bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, packing material, etc., we also look to make improvements to our building to help the environment and save cost. About 90% of the power we use comes from our rooftop and carport solar panels, all installed by our sister company, Vista Solar. SVM also installed electric car chargers under the carport free for employees to use and charge their vehicles. More recently because of the drought, the company installed artificial grass and also a new internet-based watering system that only waters when plants need water. Several years ago, the company switched out nearly all of our lights, both inside and outside the building, to LED - a big project but a big cost-savings measure. Bottom line is that SVM is both environmentally friendly company and a great company to work for.

Cons

Like most companies, SVM see fluctuations in the marketplace from time to time. So there can be up and downs. However, since SVM is a small company, we have been able to come together as a team to adapt and change with the market to stay profitable and successful no matter what the market conditions are.

Pros

- Coworkers are great and like family. - Unlimited potential upside in sales position. Sales managers make a 20% commission of the margin that they bring in for the company. There is no cap on commission so if you work hard enough you can make some serious money. - Once you are established as a Sales Manager with a good base of accounts, you have a lot of flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity. - I've gotten to travel the world to lots of amazing places meeting with customers. All throughout Europe and Asia.

Cons

- Mostly hands-off management style. This can be a plus but if you are not the best self-starter then you may struggle. - Poor work/Life balance. You are expected to always be available/working and answer emails from customers promptly, even if it is the weekend or after hours. We work with customers around the globe so it's not uncommon to have business calls in the early morning (Europe) or late afternoon/night (Asia).

Pros

I have been working at SVM full-time for over 8 years now. The atmosphere and work environment is very warm and comfortable. Rather than calling people I work with my coworkers it feels more like a big family – my home away from home. One of my many reasons why I have been working here for so long is because of the people I work with. Everyone is extremely friendly, caring, talented and works together – great teamwork! More than half of the employees currently here have been with the organization longer than 5 years. A good handful of employees have been here longer than 10 years! SVM provides stability for people who are looking for long-term employment. SVM also has a great work-life balance and as long as you have all your work done for the day there is no need to stay and work late. Most employees have families/younger children and management has always been supportive to make sure that there is an equal work and life balance. Management is constantly making changes and adjustments within all departments of the company to make procedures and processes run smoothly and more efficiently, along with taking suggestions from employees within the organization.

Cons

Nothing directly towards the company. Being a huge coffee lover I do wish there was a coffee spot located closer to the office. Most coffee joints are at least a mile or so away.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am glad to hear you consider SVM and the people you work with your family. We are very fortunate that our company has such a friendly culture and that we are all respectful and supportive of one another. We understand that having a healthy work-life balance is very important especially for working parents. Typically, on a regular business day everyone is out of the office by 5:00pm and only on rare occasions will anyone need to stay late at work. We encourage all of our employees to go home and spend time with their families and enjoy their off time. There is a lot of new development going on very close to us in Santa Clara. A brand new shopping complex is near completion that will have a Whole Foods Market and several restaurants will be opening within the next several months. Included will be a Peet’s Coffee -- the perfect place to pick up coffee on your way to work. Thank you again for your review. Your input is greatly appreciated!
