Pros
There are some great perks, including free beer, excellent healthcare and dental benefits, 401K matching and plenty of overtime opportunities. Employees can attend Rutgers games and industry expo events, and a company vehicle is provided for travel between the warehouse and accounts. The merchandising team and the supervisor are very supportive, and there’s an open-door policy with upper management and brand teams. The role offers a mix of teamwork and independent work, and every day brings something new. Plus, the ABC solicitor’s permit to sell alcohol adds to the experience.
Cons
High workload with little appreciation. Long drives and tight schedules make the job demanding, and micromanagement adds to the stress. Merchandisers are often excluded from company events and training opportunities. Advancement seems based on favoritism rather than merit. Pay is extremely low for the amount of work expected, and the provided tools are cheap, off-brand, and frequently break, making the job more difficult. Safety isn’t a priority, as getting the job done takes precedence. No union support for Merchandisers.
