Shieldpay is very happy to exit people from the business at short notice if it suits a particular executive or manager. The turnover is very high, either of people leaving when they realise what the company is like or exited in some cases because they cant afford the person or they aren’t ‘performing’. Very few people have formal performance reviews and yet are exited for performance reasons. Shieldpay is very much like a ruthless sales company, you can work long hours with constantly changing priorities, no performance review and at the end of it be giving your marching orders. It is a very old school company at its heart, with a modern facade. People are even replaced because an executive wants a friend to do the job in place of the person already in post. I was working with numerous people one week and the next they were gone, systems turned off before they could say goodbye to anyone. Not one person I worked with that was fired was bad at their job. In fact many were very good at their job, asked the right questions and were trying to modernise Shieldpay. I was also really shocked when they got rid of all the companies/people who knew how the systems worked. Now there is no one in the business who understand how all the legacy and new technology hangs together. The development work is a mess, with people often working in silos and very stressed due to the constantly changing demands of the business/execs. If you try and bring in industry standards to Shieldpay you will have a target on your back from day one. You also need to know Shieldpay is loss making and has been for some time.
