SHIELD Bearer is a diverse counseling agency that meets individuals where they are helps them achieve healing and mental health. They strive to help every individual regardless of their financial situation. The staff is a family that truly cares about one another and those they serve.

Because they are largely funded by donation and because of the poor economy they are unable to compensate at the very top of the the salary tier. However, this is also what makes the group of individuals who work here so special. They are doing this work because they truly care about the mission.

I looked at a lot of different work environments and when I came to SBCC I felt at home. Everyone is really nice and helpful. I love that I'm not micromanaged and administrators support in any project or endeavor I propose to them. There is a wide variety of counselors with different backgrounds, so for me every day is a learning experience. This is a nonprofit community based practice. For me getting to meet the people in my community and being a part of their healing process is the greatest reward. Am I making big money??? Nope but money can't buy you happiness. I'm not stressed at work, I'm not worried about disciplinary actions and I'm not fearful of my job. This has been the absolute best decision and my family is feeling the difference when I am at home.

Look if you like to be micromanaged and you need your hand held every single day, don't work here. This isn't meant to be malicious but if you require a lot of extra attention then this is not the place for you. Some people need a very structured work environment, I do not require this.
