Pros

You work with some fantastic people and gain a lot of knowledge into the paint world. You meet lot of people on a daily basis and see into how they live and different tastes and interests that walk through the door. You're closed on holiday.

Cons

Management is a joke, they removed bonuses for full time employees and gave them "raises" that were about ten cents. It was "only fair, really" was the explanation that was received. Most managers in the company have horrible attitudes and are only concerned with themselves. Positions are prettied up so that when you actually are working in that position, you feel like a fool for believing you weren't lied to. It's next to impossible to schedule work schedules, vacations, time off. If you're not a manager or assistant manager, expect to be working every Christmas Eve, and every holiday that we're open "but get an extra day off during the week to compensate for." No time and a half for working said holidays, just "a day off during the middle of the week." Long hours, constantly being yelled at by contractors because our prices are ridiculous for what we offer, and always being thrown under the bus because "it's more important that your manager look good than you." MTPs are worthless, and the program is a joke. Honestly, I could go on forever about how ridiculous this company is, but what's the point? They won't change and they've made us all aware of that.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
