Pros
Shepherd prioritizes providing exceptional therapy services for their patients; therapists are provided with numerous opportunities for continuing education, mentorship, and co-treats within and between therapy disciplines. Therapy supervisors work closely with their staff, including scheduled rounding sessions in addition to quarterly goal setting meetings to promote continual growth and development. There is an optional professional enrichment program which encourages growth in clinical skills as well as the ability to work on department- or facility-wide programming and projects, with increasing continuing education money offered at each level. On-boarding and orientation was appropriately paced, and because of the extent of skilled therapists working at Shepherd I always feel like I have resources around me to reach out for help whenever it’s needed.
Cons
As a model care center, Shepherd admits some of the most medically complex patients; these patients, their families and complicated discharge plans can be very emotionally challenging to work with.
