Pros
Shannon Staffing is a contract temporary employee company that is privately held. The interview/skill evaluation process is comensorate with the type of job placements available in the central Ohio area. The Pay is fair for the work, but negotiated with the assignment location by Shannon, and limited to the incremental increases at the assignment location. Shannon offers some benifits, i.e. vacation pay after 50 weeks full-time uninterupted service ( offered in tandum with the assignment company's paid time off accumulation), some health insurance; re-imbursement for some college class credit related to the job assignment and the versatility afforded by the advance in education. There is a very pleasant helpful staff at the local office.
Cons
It is a TEMPORARY employment agency. Helpful in between career steps, but temporary non the less. The health insurance offerings are standardized and expensive for the coverage offered. Though the college credit re-imbursement piece exists, the standard is high for qualification and very narrow (to the specific job assignment). The vacation pay is a flat amount, approximately 60% of what I was earning in a straight 40 hour week, but it was vacation PAY, not paid time off. Because of the temporay nature of the assignments, opportunity for advancement are non existant. With the assignment company the opportunities to become "full-time" were limited to those who could satisfacoraly complete a pre-employment training course (5 months), which was paid for by that company. When an assignment expired it was difficult to get a new assignment.
