Pros

They give "unlimited" vacation but its a lie

Cons

Michael Schneider seems like a nice guy at first but he isn’t. He does not care about personal time. He'll call you on a weekend night to talk about some unimportant thing that can wait until Monday. He slacks you on a holiday and make you fix a problem for his father in law. That actually happened. He will make you feel bad about taking vacation and ask you to work on your vacation. He also takes vacation away, makes you change your dates, and when you come back he will not let you forget how inconvenient it was when you were out of town. He will bother you all day long with unimportant things. He will walk up to you and interrupt your work to tell you about a problem he just found. He expects you to fix it immediately. He can’t just put a report in Jira. He has to stop you from working so he can tell you. And he'll bother you once an hour for updates. He loves updates. He wastes time and money on vanity projects like a podcast that no one watches. OK his wife might watch. He says that the people he interviews are potential launch customers but it’s a joke in the office. We know they aren't launch customers. He can’t focus long enough on anything. He has big ideas but doesn’t follow through. As soon as an idea pops into his head, he walks up to you and says that the company is changing direction or that you’re doing something completely different from what you were doing before. He does this several times a month especially when things are hard and there isnt any visible progress. He loves to market and advertise but does not care about engineering. He gets companies to write articles about software that doesn’t exist yet. He makes crazy promises then he’ll work you like a dog to make his promise true. One thing you learn working with Michael Schneider is that he loves to invent crises. He’s always pulling a deadline from the air. You do not want to work for Michael Schneider. He fails a lot but doesn’t seem to learn from it. Almost half of his engineering department quit and he did not change a thing. He did not hire anyone to replace the people who left and he did not give anyone a raise.

Another one of our values is "Continuous improvement" and so we'll use this opportunity to solicit feedback from team members and improve where we can. Pros

This is a great place to build your technical profile and work on some of the latest technologies. Within the short time that I have been here, I have learned much more than I did within the 2 years of my master's program. The team culture here is extremely collaborative and people are always available to help/guide you in the right direction. There is a high level of autonomy involved and the management trusts you to get the job done. The best thing about working here is that you get instant feedback i.e. you can see how the work you do affects the end-users as soon as the code is pushed live. Also, you are not restricted to working on the backend or the frontend and can work throughout the stack based on your interests. The work is challenging and requires the engineers to research/get up to speed with newer technologies. Overall, a great place to grow your career, especially on the tech side.

Cons

Due to the fast-paced nature of the company and the dynamic landscape of the industry that the company operates in, it can get hectic sometimes in terms of working hours especially when there are important deadlines and/or urgent issues that need to be resolved. Since there is a diverse tech stack involved and multiple projects that are going on simultaneously, the learning curve can be a little steep for someone new to the team.

Pros

– Great coworkers in the engineering team, and ops team. Reliable, team-oriented, and fun to be around. One of the central things that keeps me coming in everyday. – Team is like a family. We enjoy getting coffee or lunch together often. – Atmosphere: working in a co-working space is nice as it keeps us around other professionals/companies/startups. Keeps every day fresh. – We're allowed time to play the occasional ping pong game (an amenity at the co-work space), or to take a break with no moderation from upper management as long as we get our work done in the end.

Cons

Due to the constraints on the company (being that we're a startup), certain ideas/suggestions, or opportunities (both for myself and for the company in general) are side tabled for the sake of 'getting the job done' or to get us to the next goal/milestone, which I can understand at times. I hope that we revisit those things as we scale up. I have been told that we would.
