Pros

Working on the new software is great. Using .NET 4 and 4.5 and modern JavaScript. Good location outside Boston and the heavy commute. Decent pay, though not outstanding. Good people to work with.

Cons

Disorganized development process. Understaffed development team for over-promised and ambitious software development plan. Poor communication from development manager. Meager if any benefits - only what's required, legally. No match for 401k. No professional development and no sign from the owner that it's a problem. Poor and until recently, non-existent review process. Don't expect a raise - ever.

Pros

There are a few very nice, very hard working employees. The customer base is great - most are very easy to deal with and very appreciative of any help they can get.

Cons

"The fish rots from the head down" pretty much sums up this company, in my opinion. The biggest problems are at the top. The president doesn't want to hear about any problems, so nothing gets fixed. Promotion to Manager or Director seem to be based solely on tenure and not on any management ability or people skills. Only the Developers are seen as valuable, everyone else is treated as disposable. Absolutely no regard is given to the customer facing departments. There are a few poisonous employees - who have been there forever - that are extremely difficult to work with. Lastly, reviews are sporadic and raises (as rare as the White Buffalo) do not even cover the increase in cost of living.
